Spam Elimination with Mollom

If you spend time filtering your web content or need help with removing spam from blogs or website for profanities and spam then you will be interested in Mollom. Not only is it a panlindrome it's also a service that evaluates content quality and lets you get on with running your site. Just last night I wrote a small module purely to keep one annoying user out so this would be great for me (and not him)!

The Mollom service works by sending data you want checked to the Mollom server where it is evaluated and flagged as spam (bad) or ham (good). If Mollom does not know it forces the user through it's CAPTCHA server for an audio or visual check. Mollom's CAPTCHA is designed to be accessible and is only used in about 2% of cases so it makes your site easier for the rest of us who are not arseholes.

Mollom is currently in beta release and will be available as free software with some restrictions on commercial use. There's already a plugin for Drupal and Joomla. When you get a Mollom account you register your site and get one public and one private key. Stick them in your Mollom plugin and you're away. You can also add your OpenID key for extra security.

Mollom was founded in 2008 by Dries Buytaert (Drupal founder) and Benjamin Schrauwen. Mollom is currently self-funded.

Testers Wanted for Mollom Wordpress Plugin

In close cooperation with Dries and Benjamin, Matthias Vandermaesen developed a plugin that brings the power of Mollom to Wordpress. He needs volunteers who are willing to try out the plugin and send him feedback.
