Review: Filezilla FTP Client

Filezilla is the free FTP client for Windows that Supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS). It was voted Project of the Month on SourceForge.net and has become an popular newtworking tool for many Windows users.

I find it to be simple to use and reasonably reliable. It support multiple connections and queue managment so you can recover if you FTP server times out during upload of large files.

Beta 3 is currently under developement which will offer auto update, firewall support and be available cross platform!

Yeah, I've been using Filezilla for a few months now and love it! It's my favourite FTP client.

It would be good if you could get it to skip certain directories like ".svn" and stuff. Does anyone know about that?

Filezilla Keyboard Shortcuts:

CTRL+F: FTP Command
DEL: Delete all selected files and folders. Deleted files will be moved to the recycle bin
SHIFT+DEL: Delete all selected files and folders. Deleted files will be erased and not moved to the recycle bin.
F5: Refreshes local and remote file and folder views
Tab: Switches to the next view
Ctrl+C: Stops the current operation
Ctrl+D: Disconnects from server
Ctrl+Q: Connects to the server entered in the Quickconnect bar
Ctrl+R: Reconnects to server
Ctrl+S: Opens the Site Manager
Ctrl+T: Shows or hides the treeview

I worked out how to get filezilla to skip svn files. Don't upload them in the first place by exporting the SVN directory. This removes all the .svn files.

Ported to Linux

Filezilla has been ported to Linux! It's in Ubuntu's respository too. It works quite nicely.
