What to charge for site updates
Submitted by shanDB on Fri, 11/07/2008 - 09:37
Hi,
I'm a fairly new designer. Been working on a few projects for friends & contacts..
One client, who I regard as a close business friend, has given me a fairly heavy work load which includes semi-regular updates.
Now, I initailly gave him what I consider a very good deal for the initial website - and I'm just wondering what the "going rate" was for doing updates, as I have no idea what a reasonable charge might be..
perhaps someone in here could shed a little light into how this kind of thing is approached.
Regards,
shan

Designer Rates
When I started freelancing I was billing out at $60 per hour. But I already had some good experience. If you're just starting out it should probably be a little less. Some junior PHP developers I know bill $35 per hour. That's a low rate.
I guess if it makes you happy then it's a high enough hourly rate. If you're starting out then you'll probably need the experience more than the extra money or a high salary. I'm working on a contract at the moment that's paying me very nice rates but I know that the skills I am learning are much more valuable.
