Review: Eventum Issue Tracking System

Eventum is the open source Project Managment/Issue tacking System used by the MySQL team and from what I hear it's been a great success. Eventum is free under the terms of the GPL License (Which means General Public License License)

The install is a piece of cake. Just create a directory on your Windows or LAMP server and upload it. Then run the install script. You need a MySQL database.

Once you have it installed you'll be able to create and manage new projects and assign your users to it. You'll be able to designate issues to them and track all your bugs and task. It's got a time managment feature too. Issues get emailed to you when they arise but I broke that...

On the bummer side: Administration of Eventum isn't for the faint hearted. It's designed to be powerful and flexible rather than easy for everyone. But the documentation and community support is good. So if you're prepared to spend some time getting falimiar with it then it will pay off in reducing the hours spent on your projects.

With Enentum, you'll be able to spend more time with your loved ones! Or doing other projects...

If Eventum won't post emails then you might have forgotten to set the mail script to run. You should do this with cron.

I forgot then when I ran it for the first time I sent someone 75 emails and they got a little annoyed.

The script lives in misc/process_mail_queue.php

Oh I forgot:

Eventum can be good if you're a sloppy messy untidy person around the house. Just give your loved one an account (it's probably the male that is sloppy and the female that is not) and have her log issues for you when you awake each morning to be sent to you inbox.

This will mean you can save time discussing details and she can just say "Honey, have you fixed issue #67?" or perhaps: "Honey, have you fixed issues #23 through 142?"

This is how you make yourself a Super Administrator in eventum:
